"Never allow doubt to dictate your path."
~ Coach Sam Motzkus
Throughout my football journey, I've thrived on defying expectations. Despite being told by coaches, recruiters, and even teammates that I was too small for defensive end, I've turned doubt into belief through hard work and determination.
As a 175lb high school senior with solid stats and fundamentals, I was confident I'd play at the college level in some capacity. Despite D2 colleges urging me to hit the weight room, opportunities seemed scarce. A lone visit from a small NAIA college in Kansas fell through,
leaving me disheartened. However, a lifeline emerged when Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota extended an invitation.
With minimal scholarship and uncertain prospects, I committed to furthering my career there. But just as I prepared to embark on this new chapter, the coaching staff underwent a complete overhaul. Arriving on campus, I was met with skepticism from the new coaches who knew nothing of my capabilities.
Determined to prove myself, I immersed myself in the playbook and showcased my skills during fall camp. Despite lacking in size, I made up for it with unwavering fundamentals and a deep understanding of the game. As my college career progressed, I shattered records and earned accolades, including holding the all-time career sack record at my school and being named NAIA Defensive Player of the Week during my senior year.
My journey is a testament to perseverance and the power of self-belief. Despite facing doubters and quick judgments, I used them as fuel to excel on and off the field. Those who once doubted me became my staunchest supporters, a reminder that with dedication and resilience, anything is possible. So, never allow doubt to dictate your path. Instead, harness it to fuel your determination and strive to be the best version of yourself, both on and off the field.
